Even though there is a long list of blog posts I should be writing, I’m not really in the writing mood today. But I do have a music video I want ya’ll to do look at. When I first heard this song on the radio, I loved it immediately…until I heard the last line of the chorus: “I just can’t love you back.” I didn’t understand. It just didn’t make any sense to me. But that all changed when I watched the video.

When somebody you love passes away, as much as you wish it to be, you cannot bring them back. This is why it’s so important to love in the here & the now. Ben & I have fights (oh boy, do we fight), but at the end of all the arguing & the tears, we hug each other, kiss, & never forget to tell each other how much we love the other.

Don’t forget to tell the people you love just how much they mean to you.

& don’t forget to vote today!! Ya’ll have been so helpful & supportive, & no matter if we win or lose, I’m so grateful to have friends like ya’ll.

I LOVE YA’LL!!!

I was looking back to the blog post archives, & it made me realize that I haven’t posted a progress report since June (here it is) !!! That was practically FOUR months ago!! Yeah, I have been a total slacker. I’m terribly sorry, but now I have buckled down.

When we last left off, we had 11 months to go & here was what the to-do list looked like:

  • DETERMINE YOUR WEDDING DAY STYLE AND COLORS.
  • SET UP A BUDGET.
  • COMPILE YOUR FINAL GUEST LIST.
  • BOOK YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION LOCATIONS.
  • SEND OUT SAVE-THE-DATE CARDS. [Have the idea & the pictures, but I haven’t decided if I need more pictures. I’ll probably buy the cards soon, but won’t send them out until maybe 7-8 months before the wedding]
  • BOOK YOUR CATERER. [Have already begun discussing the options with the parents.]
  • BOOK YOUR ENTERTAINMENT. [Ehhh, I think we’ll just go with an iPod & find a friend to MC.]
  • BOOK YOUR FLORIST. [Don’t need one!! All of the flowers are going to be made out of paper.]
  • BOOK YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER & VIDEOGRAPHER. [DONE!! We found & booked our photographers, but will not be needing a videographer. Ben & I don’t like being video-ed. We feel so awkward watching ourselves on tape. We found that out when watching our skydiving video.]

Now….four months later, let’s see what we’ve gotten accomplished:

  • DETERMINE YOUR WEDDING DAY STYLE AND COLORS. [This is an ongoing process, so even though my ideas are pretty set in stone, it could change. This item continually evolves throughout the planning process so I’m going to leave it on the list.]
  • SET UP A BUDGET. [The idea is that we get everything as cheap as possible (aka. FREE!). Otherwise, I’m keeping track of the money we have spent & the money we can spend to stay within the range of money that we have set aside for the wedding.]
  • COMPILE YOUR FINAL GUEST LIST. [Just this week, I think I can finally say that the guest list is finished!!! Woohoooo!!!!! Of course, we are open to adding more people as we make new friends, but for the most part, we know how many people we are going to invite.]
  • BOOK YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION LOCATIONS. [This is the one we are having the hardest problem with!!!! So….no…it’s not done yet.]
  • SEND OUT SAVE-THE-DATE CARDS. [Figured out the design, have a place to print, & now all we are waiting for is Jaja to help me design the cards at Thanksgiving. We will have them out the week after!! So I’ll be able to cross it off the list in the next month!!]
  • BOOK YOUR CATERER. [Have already begun discussing the options with the parents.]
  • BOOK YOUR ENTERTAINMENT. [Ehhh, I think we’ll just go with an iPod & find a friend to MC.]

So not all of these months have been wasted!! We’ve been able to tackle the old to-do list, but now it’s time to start looking at the 6-8 months to go to-do list. Because if you didn’t know already, the big day is only seven months away. So here’s the next set of things I need to accomplish:

  • BUY YOUR GOWN.
  • DETERMINE YOUR MENU.
  • BOOK YOUR CAKE BAKER.
  • BOOK YOUR TRANSPORTATION.
  • BOOK YOUR CEREMONY MUSICIANS.
  • BUY BRIDESMAID DRESSES.
  • REGISTER FOR GIFTS.

Let’s see what I’ve done already….

  • BUY YOUR GOWN. [CHECK!!! That one can definitely be marked off the list! It’s hanging up in the closet until it’s time to get it altered next year.]
  • DETERMINE YOUR MENU. [Hmmm….nope. Gonna put that off for a little longer.]
  • BOOK YOUR CAKE BAKER. [Still deciding on if we are going to need one or not.]
  • BOOK YOUR TRANSPORTATION. [Nope, but this shouldn’t be too hard. All Ben & I need is a fancy ride to leave the reception. Everybody else can fend for themselves.]
  • BOOK YOUR CEREMONY MUSICIANS. [Gonna rely on some family & friends, but they haven’t been told yet. lol. So this will stay on the list.]
  • BUY BRIDESMAID DRESSES. [The bridesmaids are gonna do this themselves around the beginning of next year. There’s no rush. I’m pretty sure it won’t take them more than 5 months to find a green dress.]
  • REGISTER FOR GIFTS. [HALF DONE!! We registered at Macy’s, but still plan on registering at Target in January!]

Okay…we are kinda on track, but there is still SOOOO much to get done!! Here’s everything that needs to get done in the next few months:

  • DETERMINE YOUR WEDDING DAY STYLE AND COLORS.
  • STICK TO THE BUDGET.
  • BOOK YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION LOCATIONS.
  • SEND OUT SAVE-THE-DATE CARDS.
  • BOOK YOUR CATERER.
  • BOOK YOUR ENTERTAINMENT.
  • DETERMINE YOUR MENU.
  • BOOK YOUR CAKE BAKER.
  • BOOK YOUR TRANSPORTATION.
  • BOOK YOUR CEREMONY MUSICIANS.
  • GET THE GIRLS TO BUY BRIDESMAID DRESSES.
  • REGISTER FOR GIFTS.

Hopefully the next time I come back with a progress report, I will have at least half of these accomplished. That will be the goal.

But now I’m going to enjoy the rest of my Saturday running errands before going back to work.

& don’t forget to vote today!!! Couple #189 is ahead of us by 2,000 & I will NOT stand for that!!

Another Friday is here again!! Another week that has just breezed by. October is about to be over & the beautiful month of November is going to be on us quite soon. I cannot wait!! November is my absolute favorite month of the year!!!! Wanna know why? Well, for one thing, it’s my birthday month, not to mention Thanksgiving!! Enough said. & of course this year is the CCBC Young Adult Mountain Retreat. So many wonderful events going on, but before we can get to that, October needs to conclude.

This week has been very eventful.

– Sunday Ben & I went to the Carolina Balloon Festival for the first time, & we loved it!! Not saying that we’ll be going back every year, but we are definitely going to revisit the festival in the future.

– This week marked the one month work-iversary at Christi Falls Photography. Yah!!

– Ben & I bought an iPad.

– We celebrated our 2 1/2 year anniversary! I don’t know about ya’ll, but that’s a big deal…at least in my books. I love marking the date in my calendar every month. Eventually, we’ll have had so many years together that only the actual date will matter. Until then, I’ll continue my monthly celebration of our anniversary.

– Guess I should revisit the earlier statement I made………………………………………………..or maybe I’ll do it later.

– Visited a pumpkin patch for the first time since I was a little girl…I think. I vaguely remember picking pumpkins at some point in my childhood. Well, here I am at 22 years old, finally enjoying a pumpkin patch again!

The small pumpkins always get me!!

– Okay, fine! I’ll spill! Yes, Ben & I got an iPad & this is how I am announcing it to the world. It has been under careful discussion & consideration for the last 3-4 months, but I think after my dad bought his & Kevin was given his as a birthday present, Ben has been talking more & more about tablets. We considered different options, but in the end the iPad was the best choice. Before certain people question our choice…we got 18 months interest free financing. Ben is keeping it for now & is super excited. This is our first big purchase after paying off Taylor (Ben’s Taylor guitar we bought last October around this same time) early, I might add.

– Finally got almost 95% of the Ben’s guest list addresses. I’ve only been asking him for their addresses for the last 3 months, so this is a momentous occasion & must be celebrated!

– Got some more quality time with Ben which we spent at the bowling alley. He plays a good game, but in the end, I still beat him.

– Another week of voting is almost over & we are in second place! I’m never content with second, so everybody help us get to first place! Also, win yourselves a $500 gift card to Michael’s. You can’t tell me that doesn’t sound appealing!

Momma Needs More Art Supplies!!

Anyways, that about sums up the events of this packed week. Cannot wait for this next week.

Thompson Square has become one of my favorite country bands…if you can call two people a “band”. lol. I love the lyrics in their songs. I’ve already put up another one of their songs a couple of weeks ago, & now I just had to throw out another one. (Hope ya’ll are starting to like country. lol)

This song is definitely getting played at the wedding!!

October 23, 2011

Sunday after church, Ben & I got the car ready to drive over to Statesville for the annual Carolina Balloon Festival. I’ve had this event on the calendar for months now & was not going to miss it for anything. It didn’t take us too long before we arrived. At first while driving, we didn’t see any cars or any balloons. Ben was like, “Where is everything?” But how would I know, never going to a balloon festival before. I was a little nervous that something I had hyped up in my head was going to be a huge disappointment, but when I saw all of the cars, I got excited all over again.

(and this was just one lot of many)

Why would there be soo many cars out here if there was nothing going on?! Well, they wouldn’t! Which means something must be happening. Ben agreed with my sound logic. We finally directed to our a parking spot (yupp, they had people directing traffic…that’s how many cars there were!!), but Ben wanted to wait until the end of the Panthers game before leaving. It was pretty much over so I didn’t mind.

Look how prepared we were!! We had jackets & blankets, a cooler full of drinks (just water & vitamin water), chips, & we can’t forget about Aiden. The weather was amazing (over 70 degrees), & we didn’t even need our jackets. I could not have asked for better weather. Once Ben was done listening to the game on the radio, we headed inside.

The place was filled with sooo many people, just sitting around or walking around…enjoying time outside with their families. We scanned the field for some hot air balloons, but at the moment there was only one being inflated.

It was a very slow process, but soon enough it was almost filled.

That is one of my favorite pictures.

This balloon was the one being used for the tethered flights. For about $10, you could pay to go up in this hot air balloon for about 10 minutes. It is tethered to the ground, so it’s a safer option for those too scared to go free-floating into goodness-knows where.

And ya’ll have probably been wondering what that green hoop is doing protruding around the middle of the balloon. At first, I just assumed it was supposed to be a ring around the balloon…adding some pizazz, but when we walked to the other side, we saw this:

The green ring finally made some sense in this context & it looked better because of it!! A DRAGON HOT AIR BALLOON!!

No wonder it was the main attraction!

After ogling the dragon balloon for a good 10 minutes, we decided to walk around the perimeter & see what all of the booths were about.

Look how handsome my fiance is!!

There was a lot of yummy food!!

Here’s Ben…finally cooperating & asking to take a picture with one of the Ghost Busters!! He acted more syked about this than the actually balloons.

Eventually we decided to sit down & rest before the “show,” but not before I got my picture taken with the dragon balloon…his backside anyways (didn’t feel like walking all the way around for a picture).

But, typical Ben, it ended up not being just one picture…

I love my wide-brimmed floppy hat.

Then we got some pictures together:We set up my Elon blanket…

…which has been with us our entire 2 1/2 year relationship. It was even used in our first photoshoot together. Then I pulled out BANANAGRAMS!!

It’s been so long since we’ve played…mostly because Ben hates losing.

This time was no different. lol. Not long after we finished the game, we looked up & saw a balloon heading our way.

It was coming in from somewhere else. When we turned our heads, we noticed that all of the other balloons were being blown up. It was so cool watching all of them fill up & then release into the sky. Here are some pictures.

Look at the football. I think it paid great tribute to the fact that the Carolina Panthers won!!!

This is one of my favorite shots of the day. (image above)

Over the P.A. system, they were calling the hot air balloons Gentle Giants. It made me smile, because that term is so appropriate. Once all of the balloons had set sail, Ben thought it would be good to leave before the rest of the crowd started leaving as well. Otherwise, we’d be stuck in exiting traffic. As we slowly drove through the parking field, we watched the balloons get further & further away.

Goodbye Gentle Giants!!! Until we meet again on my birthday!!!

& like I always remind you guys: Don’t forget to go vote today!!!

Momma wants her own Gentle Giant!!

I started working at Christi Falls Photography a month ago today…September 26th, 2011. I told this to Ben yesterday, & his response was: “It’s already been a month?!” He couldn’t believe that one month has already come & gone. When I told Christi this morning, her response was about the same. This last month has just flown by. I could not have been more blessed to find this job & the perfect time. It’s everything I wanted at this point in my life. Here are some of the things I’ve picked up working with Christi:

– That working from home is always a plus.

– How to use Adobe Photoshop & rock it!!! (for example: editing photos, resizing images, watermarking the photos, combining two photos into one, batch editing, turning raw picture files into .JPEGs, & a few other tricks)

– How to print labels onto DVD’s. (which is sooo cool!!)

– How to respond to emails as somebody’s office assistant (instead of pretending to be Christi. lol).

– Just how cute & well-behaved Jackson (her 6 month old baby) is!

– Everybody needs a little bit of organization in their life.

– How to use a blog like a pro.

I have learned so much this last month, & I cannot wait to learn even more in the coming months.

Last week, Walgreens had these promotion where a promo code got you an 8 x 10 collage for FREE!!!!! & they were also selling their 11 x 14 poster prints for $1.99 (originally priced at $12.99). I was super duper excited about both of these deals!!! I’ve been wanting to get some of our engagement pictures printed, but just didn’t want to spend the money on it. This was the opportunity I have been waiting for!!! I ordered everything online & then went to pick it up.

I was like a giddy little girl opening her present Christmas morning!!!

This is what came in the bag:two collages & two posters (I got three more collages the next day)

Here are the two 11 x 14 posters that cost $1.99 each.

At first I was a little hesitant about buying the posters, because I wasn’t sure if the photo quality would be up to my standards. But at the price of $1.99, I could take the chance.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality.

This picture always makes me laugh.

and this one always makes me smile. 🙂

The collages weren’t so bad either.

If you can’t really picture what an 8 x 10 collage would look like, it’s almost the size of a regular sheet of paper or…..

….the size of my feet. lol. If that helps any.

I loved them sooo much, that I ordered three more!!

Here’s #3:

#4:

& #5:

I just couldn’t believe I got all of this

for FREE!!!!!!

I would say that turned out to be a very good deal!! No wonder it made me so happy!! This weekend, I also went & got some frames at Michael’s. They were already 40-50% off with an added 25% off. So I stocked up on some goodies. One of these days, I’ll get around to putting these pictures in, but they aren’t going to be hung up until Ben & I move into our new home (wherever that is) next year. For now, I’ll just store these in a giant box along with all of the other frames & canvases I plan on hanging up in about seven months.
