So for my dad’s birthday last week, I felt like I needed to make him something commemorative of this past year. I knew the perfect thing was to integrate some pictures of us from the wedding onto something. I got the idea from my wonderful friend, Andrea, when she made DIY coasters for my sister (CAMEL TOE!!) a while back. My dad & mom love drinking coffee, but last winter, every time I saw my dad working on the kitchen table, he had a mug of tea in his hands. We are very alike in that way, I can ease down about 5-6 cups when the weather is nice & chilly outside. Since our kitchen table has been in the family since I was 2 years old (they don’t make ’em like they use to), my parents have been stressing the point of using coasters for not only hot drinks but also the cold ones. The point is, any drink on the table should have a coaster underneath. I thought this was be perfect! It would be something sentimental, timeless, & useful!! How could anybody go wrong with that?!

The steps are pretty simple, here is the link I used (thanks, Andrea!!)

How to Make Photo Coasters

Honestly, sooooo easy!!

And they turned out sooo well, that I even started making some for myself!!

This would even make great presents to all of your bridesmaids…but instead of pictures of you with your fiance/husband, make a set of you & that bridesmaid! Just saying….but this is definitely a project worth trying out!!

Today marks the passing of another month of marriage. They are just flying right by us, aren’t they?!

Any big changes in our lives? Why, yes. Just yesterday Ben interviewed & got the full-time Teller position at Wells Fargo after only 6 months of being there!! After another 6 months at this position he can apply for something bigger & better. This is good because I’ve decided to be a stay-at-home wife. Wait ’til he finds that out. Poor man.

But we are extremely blessed. I get to fall asleep next to the man I love knowing that I get to wake right back up next to him. I can make it through my day without him knowing that I get to see him every night when I come home. I get to plan a future with the one person I cannot see my life without. I might not have a job (full-time that is), we might not have that much money saved up, & we definitely do not know where the future is taking us, but we have each other. To me that’s enough, because I learned from the very wise (but don’t tell them I said that) parents of mine that it’s better to start off with a little — or even nothing — because it makes you appreciate the future when God gives you more.

We got another month to spend as husband & wife, & I pray that we get many, many more.

Happy four months, love!!

August 19th, 2012

This one caught me by surprise. Usually I’m more prepared with a blog post ready to go days in advance. That way I can also put up pictures from the last month’s happenings & what-not, but it so happens that I have yet to transfer the pictures from my cameras to my computer (I’m notoriously horrible at doing this right away). Guess I will just have to type & upload photos at the same time. I’ll be doing this while Ben drafts his fantasy football team. 🙂

Here’s the skinny on the latest 30 days of marriage.

When we are not working, cleaning, playing with Gus, playing DOTA (that would all be Ben), crafting (that would all be me), eating, sleeping, running errands, catching each other up on our days or being absolutely lazy, this is what we do:

We got to spend a wonderful Saturday in early August at the lake with the youth at our church.

Here’s the hubs lookin’ all GQ.

But he also made sure the deck was safe…hammering in the protruding nails along the deck.

and of course I needed a picture with him. These are memories we are making!!

Then on the way home, we stopped by the Lake Norman farmer’s market I saw in the way to the lake house.

It was my first trip to a farmer’s market this summer & I was super excited!

Everything looked sooo amazing & fresh!! It was also decently priced…which is a huge plus.

The honey sticks brought back memories of my childhood with the bestie Christine.

What made the trip even better was that they had freshly picked figs. FIGS!!!!!!! I had literally been dying for weeks thinking about eating some figs, but had no idea where to find them without being ridiculously expensive. Well, here they were!!

See my face?

I was beyond happy!!!!!

Later that same week, Ben & I went to a little dinner gathering at my parents’ house to hang out. JaJa cooked us all a yummy & healthy dinner + desserts.

After dinner everyone played Dutch Blitz, Kemps (which Ben & I won!!!), & Fish bowl (which is like charades).

You can see that Ben is not shy about playing. lol

Earlier this week, Ben & I spent a good 2 1/2 hours bowling at AMF.

They have this amazing deal going on: Unlimited bowling for $10 from 8 PM until close from Sun-Thurs. I definitely recommend it. And the AMF in Matthews is great!

We definitely took advantage of it. The next day, our bowling arms were soooooo sore!! Then on the way out, Ben saw this game & just had to play.

It brought back a flood of memories, because this punching game was involved the first day Ben & I met almost 3 1/2 years ago. That Friday night (April 24th, 2009) after church, a group of us decided to go to the AMF in University. By the time we got there, it was about to close, but the guys decided to play this game. It was pretty hilarious!

It just shows how far our relationship has come without many things changing. But I’m not complaining.

This past month of marriage has been amazing. It’s still kind of surreal, but there’s no denying that we are married. The other day Ben just pulls me into a hug & whispers, “I’m so glad we are married, & I get to spend every night with you.”

That’s how it feels. We feel blessed with every day that passes that we get to spend more time with each other.

May 1st, 2012

For the first time in about a month, I slept in….of course that means I woke up at 8:15 AM. lol. But I feel completely rested & ready to tackle another day of wedding prep.

It’s exciting & a tad scary to think about how different my life is going to be in 18 days. How different a lot of our lives are going to be in 18 days.

I’m so thankful that I only work part-time right now. Today is my day off, & I have been crafting, organizing, & packing like a mad woman. I just moved a car load of boxes to Ben’s house on Saturday & now I have more boxes & bags to bring over tomorrow. By this time in 3 weeks, my room will be a ghost town. But for now, it looks like a tornado ripped through it.

All the dressers but 1 in that bureau is empty, the desk drawers or void of anything & the bottom of the table is almost clear. Most of the non-essentials have been cleaned out of this area.

I have pretty much been living on the floor of my room for the last 4 months. This is where I do all of my crafting. As you can see, there is a lot of crafting going on.

My bookshelf area is pretty much deserted. Only a few things linger on the shelves. I have decided that some of those things can stay until I find the proper place to put them in the new house.

You can actually see empty space in my closet now!! The racks used to be filled with clothes, the floor was completely covered with boxes/bins, & the shelf was stacked high with shoe & craft boxes. I have so many craft things now that cannot possibly be moved into Ben’s house until after I have completed the art room painting project & gotten some furniture in there (bookshelves & a desk), so I have neatly stacked them in the closet to be collected sometime this summer.

In a couple of weeks, this room is going to be even emptier than it is now.

As I’ve been packing, I’ve been saying goodbye to this room that I’ve occupied for the last 10 years of my life (with 4 years of college intermingled in those years). Saying goodbye to this house that won’t be mine anymore. Saying goodbye to a family I will no longer live with.

It’s definitely really sad, but now I get a new room that I can not only call “mine” but “OURS“. I have a new house. I’ll be starting a new family with the man who completes me in every single way.

It’s so bittersweet.

The wonderful ladies of my church threw me a wonderful bridal shower a couple of weeks ago. I don’t have any photos of it, but this is just a shout-out to all of the people who made that afternoon pretty special!

Seeing as it was my first bridal shower (thrown for me), I was blown away by all of the work & preparation that ya’ll put into it. Thank you so much!

& thank ya’ll for the gifts! It pretty much took up the entire space in my car!!

I left it all in the car overnight & then moved it into Ben’s house the next day.

Now it’s all been moved into our closet floor space to be opened & enjoyed after the wedding. I can’t wait to use/display everything!!

April 7th, 2012

Today is a very exciting day…one of many to come in the next 42 days (& even after that). Today I will be attending my first bridal shower!!! The ladies at my church so kindly put this shower together for me. I’m excited, because it’s one of the first things I didn’t have to plan. I am just required to show up, mingle, & open lots of goodies (well, I hope there are lots of goodies)! I think I’m able to do that without a problem.

I wish Ben were here so I could regale him with stories at work tonight, but sadly he isn’t. He flew to Minnesota yesterday in order to attend his grandma’s funeral. He wanted me to go, & I wanted to go in order to support him, but I couldn’t for many reasons. But I am here in Charlotte, sending my love to him & his family.

I have a lot of things to finish up this morning so I’m going to get started on that. Weddings don’t plan themselves.

April is a month chalked full of anniversaries. First there was April 1st – our one year engagement anniversary. Now we are celebrating the one year anniversary of this blog. Later we will be celebrating one month left to go before the wedding (April 19th) & the Ben & my 3 year anniversary of the day we met & started falling in love (April 24th…you’ll get that love story as well). Pretty special month, right?

But for now, I just want to celebrate the fact that this blog has turned ONE!!! Thank you to all of my readers & followers. It means so much to me that ya’ll read this blog (I know Ben doesn’t. lol.) & leave wonderful comments for me to enjoy. Honestly, I don’t know how much longer I will be keeping this blog after the wedding & everything, but let’s not think about that now.

Yah for turning ONE!!! I’ll be celebrating by posting some wonderful posts with lots of pictures in the coming days!
