Woke up this morning (Wednesday) at 8am, ate a homemade blueberry scone (courtesy of the lil’ sis), emptied my closet of old clothes to be yard-saled off later, hung up only half of my wardrobe from Elon into the closet & it’s already full, & this was all before 10:30am. Then I figured it was time to start on the next wedding project.
Last week, I stopped by Lowe’s Home Improvement & was transported in heaven. I wanted to buy everything!!! Ben can attest to that, because he had to use his “Mimi…” scolding tone & make me put back a few extra things that I wanted. I think Lowe’s is fastly becoming my third favorite store, after Michael’s & Forever 21 of course. I went into Lowe’s & came out only purchasing the stuff on my list, mostly thanks to Ben reigning me in. (Thanks, love). I bought two 4′ x 8′ sheets of flat, thin birchwood for about $10 a pop. I had the store people cut those down into the sizes that I wanted, which also made them easier to carry & load into Ben’s Prius. I also picked up a small sanding tool, extra sanding sheets, & these small triangle painting stands (not used in this project though), because I knew it would make life a whole lot easier.
Here is the loot:
I was ready to get my sanding on!! It took about 45 minutes or so to sand all 14 pieces & take a break to eat some cereal. The front & back came sanded, but the edges were extremely rough & jagged due to the fact we got them cut down at the store. I wanted to smooth those out, because splinters really hurt & I wanted to forgo that unnecessary complication later. That’s what I call proactive thinking!! & being a perfectionist, it took me a little longer to sand than it probably would have simply because I wanted to make sure the edges & sides were completely smooth.
After that, I bought all of the pieces in & began outlining: In this picture, you can see the faint pencil lines I drew as my template.
& then it was on to painting while listening to music & catching up on some Hulu shows.
& a couple hours later, here is the finished product:
Here’s from a different angle:
What do you think? Sorry the pictures are so blue. Aiden’s white balance decided to be stubborn & not work.
There are some MASSIVE scrabble tiles I know. I told Ben we could make a whole set & play the biggest game of scrabble EVER!!! lol. He just laughed.
Anyways, off to do the rest of the tiles later.
umm . . yard sale as in transport to andrea and anna’s closet right ? haha the tiles are looking amazing ! 🙂
[…] to buy a long piece of wood & have them cut it up (just like I did with my scrabble tiles here). Here’s a note for all of you crafters out there. Michael’s, A.C. Moore, & other […]
